Corporate Responsibility is understanding that every thing we do, every part of our business, EVERYTHING, is creating the society we live in and the planet we live on. “Corporate” literally means “the body of the whole” from ancient Latin. So Corporate Responsibility is about being responsible for both the whole company and the whole in which the company exists.

Corporate Responsibility from this whole perspective means we consider the effects of how:
• we expend, earn and exchange money and engage in philanthropy
• we organize people to work,
• we market and sell,
• we deal with our suppliers, subcontractors and distributors,
• we train and educate our people and the public, and
• we engage our customers and consumers. And much more.

In other words this holistic perspective includes, but goes way beyond, the development of ecologically friendly products, sustainable and fair trade supply chains and a commitment to good deeds and philanthropy. We risk being “unintentionally irresponsible”, when we do not consider the entire whole we are a part of. If we examine and innovate with this whole in mind, we can indeed be responsible corporately— in commerce, community groups and civic organizations.

Through Antioch University Seattle, we have created an educational and networking forum that is about lining up Global Imperatives and your company’s unique essence and offerings with the way you do business—every day in everything.

The forum begins a formal on-going conversation and gathering. We begin meeting on October 14, 2009, through an Antioch certificate program
Corporate Responsibility 3.0: What the Vanguard is Doing Now.
This program is a mix of creative collaborating on our participant’s organizations and their next innovative initiatives. The conversations will be peppered with a consultative learning process, part residential in Seattle and a eight web conferences.
